University of Reading Sensory Study

The University of Reading is currently recruiting for a study on the relationship between sensory reactivity and mood in autism. We are looking for verbal autistic teenagers (13-7yrs), OR parents/carers of autistic teenagers who speak few to no words, to participate in an online questionnaire and separate online interview. Our aim is for this research to be used to better support autistic young people presenting across the spectrum.

Healthier Together is a website developed by local healthcare professionals across Dorset, Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth

The website provides; –

·         Advice for parents, children, young people, pregnant women, and clinical resources to support healthcare professionals including standardised clinical pathways, consistent safety netting information, safeguarding guidance, and contact details for further advice.

·          Locally focussed information.

·          Links to nationally driven messages and campaigns.

Kooth Social Media and Website Guide for Schools

Kooth – A Free Online Mental Wellbeing Community for Young People Aged 11-18

What is Kooth?

Kooth is a free online counselling and emotional well-being support service providing young people aged 11-18 years (up to 19th birthday) in Portsmouth with a safe and secure means of accessing support with their emotional health and wellbeing needs from a professional team of qualified counsellors. By accessing Kooth young people can benefit from:

•             A free, confidential, anonymous and safe way to receive support online.

•             Out of hours’ availability. Counsellors are available from 12noon to 10pm on weekdays and 6pm to 10 pm at weekends, every day of the year on a drop in basis.

•             Online counselling from a professional team of BACP qualified counsellors is available via 1-1 chat sessions or messaging on a drop in basis or via booked sessions.

•             Discussion boards which are all pre-moderated allow young people to access peer to peer support.

•             Online magazine full of moderated articles many of which are submitted by young people offering advice and guidance on a huge range of topics.

•             No referral is required. Young people can register for Kooth independently at:

Sleep in Adolescents

Adolescents are notorious for not getting enough sleep, which can impact on many aspects of your teenager’s functioning such as mood, function and academic performance.

We recognise that sleep deprivation is currently a big issue in our area, so The Solent NHS Trust have put together some resources, full of tips and advice that you may find useful to help your teenager get enough sleep.

Passenger Transport Assistant Vacancies

Would you like to make a difference to the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities?

Portsmouth City Council is currently looking for additional Passenger Transport Assistants to travel with children to and from schools and colleges in Portsmouth and further afield, taking responsibility for the children’s safety and well-being. Successful applicants will be able to build a good rapport with children with special educational needs, and will need to become familiar with the operation of specialist equipment, for example car seats, vehicle passenger lifts, ramps and wheelchair restraints in case of emergency. 

PCC are currently looking for relief passenger transport assistants who can work with us when colleagues are absent for short or longer term reasons. We anticipate that we will shortly be recruiting to a number of permanent posts, and will recruit initially from the relief passenger transport pool. The hours are typically 08.00am to 09.30am and 14.30 to 16.15.
